2nd Term - Inauguration March 1st 2020

Inauguration of Association of Indians in America ( AIA) National Executive committee took place on March1st, 2020 at Antuns in Hicksville Nassau County  New York . It was attended by about 125 guests, including Senator Kevin Thomas, India’s Consul General in NY Sandeep Chakravarty, Democratic Leader of Queens Neeta Jain, Chairman Nassau County Human Rights Commission, Bobby K. Kalotee, AIA’s Past National Presidents, Chapter presidents and AIA members. Oath was given to the President of National AIA, Dr. Urmilesh Arya by Consul General Sandeep Chakraverty.  Oath was also given to the National Executive Committee by Senator Kevin Thomas.

Consul General of New York Sandeep Chakravarty informed that he has started a new program “Chalo Consulate”. In this program he advised people to come to the Consulate and discuss the issues, also advised how the Consulate can serve the community in a better way. He suggested Indians in America should be united. Senator Kevin Thomas stressed upon the use of voting power and to develop unity that will have a good impact on India.

Democratic leader of Queens, Nita Jain, informed that she has been working to get School Holiday for Diwali celebrations .Chairman Nassau County Human Rights. Bobby K. Kalotee gave a standing ovation to Dr. Urmilesh Arya and emphasized that Unity is our strength.

Dr. Urmilesh Arya,President National AIA, spoke about the projects done in past 2 years including 50th Anniversary of AIA Gala celebration. The other  Charity such as, building school in Ayoor Village Kerala, School bags filled with supplies to needy children at Marcus Garvey School in Brooklyn NY, 500 Winter Jackets to Veterans’ children and to other needy children, 312 blankets and 312 Shirts sent to Victims of Puerto Rico earthquake.

She Quoted President Trump “Today I say every Indian, North and South  …Take pride in the glories of your past. Unite for an even brighter future and let our two Nations always stand together as powerful defenders of peace and liberty”

Dr. Urmilesh Arya also quoted, President John F. Kennedy “Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country”.  She said this holds true for our organization.

Activities for Covid in America During 2020-21 Period

In the Year 2020 Covid 19 was a major disaster. Thousands of people were dying every day in the Country. AIA played a great role to help the Country during this devastating period. The organization put in great efforts to educate the people about Covid disease, Measures of its Prevention and Treatment. Large number of physicians and Nurses from AIA family volunteered and worked in Hospitals and Nursing Homes. A web site was developed with a team of doctors answering the questions and concerns of people.

Meals Distribution

In the Month of April Meal distribution to first line workers was done in various hospitals,
Long Island Jewish, Elmurst , Glen Cove Hospital .

On Nov 10th 2020, AIA celebrated Veterans day together with Indian American forum at the office of Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino . The event was graced by Nassau County Supervisor Laura Curran, Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Director of Asian affairs, Farrah Mozawalla and Chairman Nassau County Human Rights Commission, Bobby K.Kalotee. The program was started with pledge of Allegiance by Mukesh Modi. Retired veteran Dr. Kamal Singh Kalsi was given the Honor Award. 450 winter jackets and 240 packages of hand gloves, scarves and pairs of socks were distributed to the Veterans and shelter homes. Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino paid tribute to the Veterans by saluting them and appreciated Indian community for supporting the Veterans’ families. He presented Citations to Dr Urmilesh Arya and Indu Jaiswal. Dr. Arya paid tribute by saluting the Veterans and said “Our flag does not fly because of the wind, it flies with the last breath of each soldier who sacrificed his/her life protecting USA. Soldiers give their life for the country and we are all indebted to them.” She thanked the Supervisor Joseph Saladino for providing and hosting the event.

Helping India to Fight Covid

Dr. Urmilesh Arya the National president of AIA said it is a pleasure and pride for our Association to help people of our Motherland at this time of Covid crisis. AIA always remained fore front for any difficult situation in India, whether it was a Hurricane, Flooding, Earthquake, HIV or Covid this time. When Covid was at its height in America, the members of AIA helped the people by distributing masks, Food and Winter Jackets.

At this time when 2nd wave of Covid hit India hard, Members of AIA- send their help to India in many ways. Washington Chapter Dr. Usha Kumar and her EC send a ck. of $16,000.00 and Dr. Deepak Nandi member NEC send $ 5000.00 to PM fund. With the great efforts of Dr. Shashi S. Shah, the past President of AIA, North well Health Network of LI send 1 million Masks and 1000 Oxygen Concentrators. Dr. Yashpal Arya distributed 1500 bags of food to needy people, each containing Wheat flour 10 Kg, Rice 5 Kg, Dal (Arhar) 3 Kg, Potatoes 5 Kg, Onions 5 kg, Sugar 1 Kg and Cooking oil mustard 1 Kg

We sent 90 Oxygen Concentrators with the contributions of many AIA members, among them past presidents, some Chapter Presidents as of South Jersey, IL and Wisconsin and the founding members Mr. Tapas Sen, Dr. Roshan Chaddha and Mr. Mani Subramanyam supported the cause. Oxygen Concentrators are distributed to Covid Hospital in Vatsalyagram in Vrendaven, Hospitals in Bharatpur and in villages of Rajasthan-Kherli, Nadvai, and many more.

10 Ventilators Donated by Mt. Sinai Hospital with efforts of Dr. Samin Sharma. All the accessory tubing costing $3000.00 for all the Ventilators were donated by Dr. Samin Sharma. These Ventilators will be distributed to the needed hospital in Rajasthan by Jaipur foot USA. We are very thankful to Mr. Prem Bhandari the Chairperson of Jaipur Foot USA took the full responsibility of delivering the ventilators to the needed hospital of Rajasthan.

Ventilators are Distributed in the tribute of Padam Shri Dr. Ashok Pangarhia. The Distributions is made to various needy hospitals in India such as Kalapurn General Hospital Khichan , Sumerpur, Hariana, Kernatak, and Dargiling.

Khanwa School Prioject - Bharatpur Rajasthan

It is a pleasure and pride for AIA that we are building a high school (10+2) at Khanwa Village at Bharatpur Rajasthan School was approved by NEC. It will be a high standard school as that of America. Teachings will include academic excellence with stress upon Indian Sanskar, Nationalism, discipline etc - the basics of Vidhya Bharati Schools. It is a project of about $ 200.000.00. This is the best gift we can give to our motherland. It will be funded by Children development Fund of AIA and funds raised for the school. Year after year patriotic children will come out from this school to serve the country. we will build the rooms on the name of the donors. Donation of $10,000.00 and $5000.00 will have the names on the rooms assigned and $1000.00 will bring the name of the donor on the Board. This way we are raising the funds for the school. Khanwa is a historic place. It is famous for the fight between Rana Sanga and baber.

  • AIA is undertakin a big project of building a high school in Khawna village of Bharatpur District – Rajasthan. Khanwa village has the historical importance.
  • In Muslim Era there was a big fight took place between Baber and Rana Sanga.
  • School maintenance and education will be taken care of by Vidhya Bharati schools Samiti.
  • Vidhya Bharati provides educational excellence together with Indian Heritage, culture and Sanskar. Most of the Alumni from Vidha Bharati are placed at good positions like Drs. Engineers, Lowers etc.
  • PM Modi also appreciated education and Sanskar given by Vidhya Bharati schools. School is under construction at present.
  • Funds are provided by AIA through Fund raising and from Children’s development fund.

Diwali at the Capitol Hill, Nov 7th 2021

This is of immense pride that we celebrated Diwali at the Capitol Hill on Nov 7th with Congress woman Carolyn Maloney and Congressman and Chairperson of foreign affairs Gregory Meek and Congress man Raja Krishna Moorthy. Congress woman Carolyn Maloney proposed the Bill for Diwali to be the National Holiday at the Congress committee and Congressman Gregory Meek strongly supported the Bill.
